Props

Today in class we had group meetings with people doing different projects to give feedback and help give ideas. This meeting was extremely helpful and gave me a great idea for many shots in the music video. In my group, my friend Keira mentioned that she thinks that random items and weird miscellaneous things give a "teen vibe". I absolutely loved the idea and RAN with it.

I have created a prop list for the project using this suggestion in mind:

PROPS

lipstick

giant Scooby doo plush

pounds of rubber ducks

 fruit and bat

fake tongues

teeth chatter toy

inflatable guitar

tarp

filming location #1

I have found an amazing spot to film the music video. I used this place to film my trailer project earlier in the year and it is perfect for this video.

There is a blocked-off road where no cars are allowed to go and there is a parking lot right beside it. It is a public area but is empty most of the time and I think that could be a great place to set up.

costumes!

For the costumes of this music video, I want them to be simple, with a burst of color. I am thinking just some plain white wifebeaters or shirtless, jeans or jorts, and in reference of the name of the song (top this), the band should all wear bright red lipstick.

I really want to keep the colors of this music video kind of dull, but I want to color-grade it and make sure that the red lipstick really POPS out and draws attention to their mouths.

I really like this idea, and like I have said previously in the blog, I want something costume-wise that will make the video memorable based on that one thing (ex: beastie boys sabotage wigs).

Digipack ideas

I have decided that a vinyl release of this song would be best for the digipack. Especially with the rise of the "vintage aesthetic" that has only grown in popularity over the past couple of years, a vinyl release of the album "top this" is on will do great.

Also according to https://www.statista.com/statistics/694926/vinyl-album-sales-genre/ the most popular genre listened to on vinyl is Rock music. This means that based on Jaggn's target audience of rock fans, a vinyl release will be very successful.

Song is finished!

I just wanted to give an update on the song itself. The band has it down perfectly and is ready to record!

The lyrics are finalized and everything is cleaned up. The recording process has started and the actual track should be done by the end of next week.

Music Vid research

Music video's come in all shapes and sizes, so picking a format for one was quite hard. Since Jaggn is a rock band, of course, it is going to be a rock music video. I watched a PLETHORA of rock music videos and have really decided on four different ones as inspiration for mine.

- Red Hot Chili Peppers- Can't Stop youtube.com/watch?v=8DyziWtkfBw

Beastie Boys- Sabotage https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z5rRZdiu1UE

- Weezer - Say It Ain't So https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ENXvZ9YRjbo

- Kiss - I Was Made For Lovin' You https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZhIsAZO5gl0

All of these music videos have one major thing in common; they are all promotional music videos. I think an artistic promotional video would work best for the type of music Jaggn makes. I really like how in the Can't Stop music video, everything seems chaotic, but organized and that is something I would like to do in mine. I also really liked how they used those iconic stand-out wigs in the Sabotage music video. I would love to have some kind of defining costume in my video like that. Still not 100% sure where I am going with this project, but I am excited to see where it goes!

Song Draft

Jaggn sent me a rough draft of the song, and I LOVE IT. It is perfect for the music video I want to make. The song is called "Top This" and gives off a Red Hot Chili Peppers/Pop/Rock (and even rap...?) vibe. I love it.

Although the song is not complete, the band is on schedule to finish the real recording within the next 3 weeks, which gives me enough time to organize and plan out the video.

This is the draft:

Song options

Since I am working with an actual band, the song for the video is very important. Jaggn performs both cover and original songs, so I had a lot of options to choose from. I haven't heard their original music until recently, but their music is very Red Hot Chili Peppe-esc. It's that rock n' roll upbeat pop rock, and their originals are all that.

The band has informed me about a song they would love to do for the music video. I have not heard it yet, but they describe it as upbeat hard rock, which is something i'm very interested in. They haven't recorded the song yet but I am waiting on them to give me a rough draft.

OH YEAH A LEVEL PROJ!

Back to bloggin'! Finally, the time has come to start my A-level portfolio project. For this project we had a couple options:

- Short Film

- Documentary

- Music video

- Trailer

I am choosing to do the Music Video project because I feel like out of all of the projects, I can make the best product with the music video. For my Documentary project earlier in the year, we focused on a local high school band called "Jaggn" and I plan on working with them again for this project. Since I've worked with them before, I know the members are very easy to work with, and the project should go smoothly.

I have yet to pick a song for the video, but the band has informed me that they already have music recorded and ready to go. I still don't know if I want to do a cover of a song, or one of the band's original songs. My song decision will directly affect the style of the music video, so when I choose, you will all be the first to know!

I cannot wait to get the ball rolling on this project, and see where it goes!
